Why is the Inspection so Important?

How important is a chimney inspection, really? It is very important according to the Chimney Institute of America (CSIA) and National Fire Institute (NFI). It is especially true if you use your fireplace on a regular basis in the fall and winter. The more often you use your fireplace, the faster and quicker the creosote builds up in your system.

Creosote is a thick, black or brown crusty or gunky material that coats the interior of your chimney, and it is extremely flammable. Even as little as an eighth of an inch of it is enough to catch an ember and start a chimney fire. Another cause of creosote build is the moisture level in the wood you use in your fireplace. If your wood hasn’t been cured as long as necessary, the smoke that is produced will have too much moisture, which will cause creosote faster in your system.
