It is so important to know who you are hiring to do those jobs that are most important. For instance, if you are going to have extensive work done on your car, like having the engine overhauled, you’ll want to hire someone who is ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified. If you need to have surgery done, such as a knee replacement, you’ll want to check out your doctor’s credentials to make sure that he or she was properly trained. The reason it’s so important is because not every person is as qualified as the next to do a job, and if you’re taking care of something that’s valuable to you, you want only the best person working on it. The same should be true of having your chimney cleaned and inspected. This may seem like a routine process, but it is actually a very important job, with the safety of your family members and your home depending on how well it is completed. If you want to make sure that your chimney is being properly cared for and maintained, then you’ll want to check out the certifications that the company you hire holds.

What A Good Certification RequiresCertification Logos

One of the top certifications for a chimney sweep company to hold is from the National Fire Protection Association. Although some certifications may only require an application to be filled out, this isn’t the case with the NFPA. To even be eligible for certification, a sweep must have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in a fire-protection discipline plus two years of work experience, an associates degree in a fire-protection discipline plus four years of work experience, or a high school degree plus six year of work experience. The work experience has to include work dedicated to fire loss protection. Applicants are also required to pass a three-hour examination covering different aspects of fire control and protective services.

At Alpine Chimney Sweeps, we are proud to hold NFPA certification. But that isn’t enough. We want our customers to know that we are dedicated to their safely, and so we also hold membership in the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG). One of the biggest benefits of this membership is being able to network with other members from around the country. We also have access to a hotline that can offer advice on all aspects of chimney sweeping and inspection, so if a situation arises that we need an extra opinion on, help is just a phone call away.

Additional Memberships

These aren’t the only memberships and certifications that Alpine Chimney Sweeps holds. We’re a Certified Chimney Professional, and we are also members of the New York State Chimney Sweep Guild.
